2018 ANNUAL CONFERENCE WRAP UP DVD is available in the church office.  The DVD can be checked out to view and return.  Please contact the church office to make sure it is available when you want to sign it out. There is also a printout of the Wrap-up on the table in the narthex for you to pick up.

SEPTEMBER 29, 2018 – COMPELLING VISION SESSION – York First Church is hosting a Listening and Visioning Session on Saturday afternoon Sept 29 at 1:30 PM. All members are encouraged to attend, as are many Brethren from nearby congregations. Donita Keister, current Annual Conference Moderator, will provide leadership and direction for all who gather. These sessions will play an important role in the greater work of the Church of the Brethren, which has committed to a process of discerning a “Compelling Vision” for our ministry and mission in the years to come. OCTOBER 7, 2018 – LOVE FEAST following worship in the Fellowship Hall ~ Please plan to gather at the Lord’s table for this special time of worship.  There is a place for you there.

 

OCTOBER 7, 2018 – Deadline to place your order for Naylor’s Peanut Crunch, Cashew Crunch, & Buttermints. You may place your candy order with Anna Miller or place in box on church office counter.  Payment must accompany order form and made payable to The Friends of CKV-TBHC. The order forms will be an insert in the church bulletin Sunday, Sept. 30th.

Nadine Diehl Estate Auction will be held on Sat., Oct. 6th at 8:30 am. This auction will be for household items and furniture. These auctions will be held at the Steve Farmer Auction, Main St., Red Lion. There will be pictures and information online as well as live auction bidding available. OCTOBER 10, 2018 – New Windsor Work Day has been scheduled for Wednesday, Oct. 10th. – We will travel to New Windsor to work in the fair trade program SERRV, pricing and packing gift items from around the world.  Hot Dog lunch will be provided.  Join us by signing up in the church narthex (or call Helen  Stoner 717-624-3398). Be ready to leave the church parking lot at 7:15 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 10th.  John Anderson will pilot the church vehicle.  Thank you, John.

 

OCTOBER 11, 2018 ~ OWLS  OCTOBER  ACTIVITY – Have you explored NOAH’S ARC?  If not, please join us on Thursday October 11 at noon in the Homebuilder’s classroom 154.  Brad and Melinda will be sharing their pictures and experiences from their recent trips to the Arc. This should be a most interesting afternoon. Bring a friend and your bag lunch. Drinks and dessert will be provided.  Please sign up on the sheet in the narthex by October 7 so we know how many to prepare for.

OCTOBER 12, 2018 ~ SOUP KITCHEN – PLEASE BRING CASSEROLES TO CHURCH BY 8:30 AM ON FRIDAY.

Sign up in the narthex to make a casserole or to work at the Soup Kitchen on Friday, October 12, 2018 (10:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.) PLEASE add your name and number of casseroles, to the SIGN UP sheet, so we can let the Soup Kitchen  know how many casseroles to expect.

 

OCTOBER 13, 2018 – First in a Series of “Neighbor Nites” this fall season. River Crossing Playback Theater, “When I was a Kid”, 7:00 pm, Sanctuary ~Tell a story from your childhood and then watch it performed right in front of your eyes, improv style. Free; donation invited.

 

OCTOBER 13, 2018 – Apple Butter Festival, Sat., Oct. 13, 8am to 1pm, brought to you by The Friends of CKV a Brethren Home Community.  Join us for: Fresh apple butter, indoor yard sale, fresh baked goods, used books and new this year…..soup sale (orders picked up on Oct. 13th by 12:30 pm) Volunteers needed to bake, peel apples, to stir apple butter, and people willing to help with set-up and take-down after the event.  Call Volunteer Services to help at 717-624-5227 so that we can have the most successful Apple Butter Festival ever at Cross Keys Village.

 

OCTOBER 20, 2018 – CAMP EDER Festival and Benefit Auction, Sat., Oct. 20th, 10:00 – 4:00, Live and Silent Auction (Auction begins at 10:30 am), Pig Roast, Turkey Feast, Lots of Kid’s Activities, Bake Sale, Apple Dumplings, Apple Bombs, Candy Treasure Hunt, Petting Zoo, Food Concessions, Live Music, Local Vendors.  Proceeds go toward our scholarship fund & flood repair. The scholarship fund ensures every child, regardless of ability to pay, can attend camp….because THE GOSPEL CHANGES EVERYTHING. ~ See poster on bulletin board for additional information. OCTOBER 20, 2018 – Neighbor Nites – My Family Came From……….Bring a favorite dish! Celebrate your home country, ethnic heritage, or grandma’s cooking. And then come to the microphone and briefly share your family’s origin story. Free.

 

OCTOBER 24, 2018 ~ TRICK OR TRUNK – Wednesday, October 24, 5:30 PM.   Come join us for this annual community event!  Volunteers are needed to decorate trunks and distribute candy/trinkets to the children, assist with light snacks in Fellowship Hall, direct cars and participants in the parking lot, assist with cleanup. Signup sheets are available in the narthex.

 

OCTOBER 27, 2018 – Neighbor Nites ~ COCO – Scott Krauser, principal, York Suburban Middle School-Scott will introduce this Disney animated contemporary classic. It’s an innovative exploration of Mexican culture and its entertaining and imaginative musical appreciation of the afterlife. Come and help yourself to the endless supply of popcorn. Free.

CONTACTING THE PASTOR:  Pastor Joel can be reached most mornings in the church office Monday—Thursday from 9:00 a.m. to noon. Afternoons and evenings are set aside for visiting those in need, for meetings, and for other pastoral duties. Pastor Joel is also available for Pastoral Counseling by appointment.  If you need to reach the pastor outside of office hours, his home phone number is (717) 318-5442, and his cell number is (717) 271-4888 . You can also email him at pastor@yorkfirst.org.  By the way, HIPA laws prevent the hospital from contacting the pastor when you are admitted, so you will need to let hospital staff know that you would like the hospital to contact your pastor.
